Problems Faced
Conversations about weight can be difficult for both healthcare professionals and patients. Research highlights several common barriers that can impact confidence, communication, and patient engagement in practice.

Patients may feel judged, misunderstood, or reluctant to engage.
Uncertainty around language
Clinicians often report not knowing what language or approach to use.
Fear of upsetting patients
Many healthcare professionals worry about causing offence or damaging relationships.
Limited real-world training
Existing training opportunities are often difficult to access or apply in practice.
